Proverbs 14:15 says that, “A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thoughts to his steps.”
Today’s verse reminds us how important it is to make sure that you know what you’re getting yourself into before making a commitment.
Hey I hate to admit it but there was a time in my life when I got hooked on those wonderful infomercials. You know the ones, where by sitting on some gadget for just five minutes a day I would develop those rock hard abs. Or how with no money down I could become incredibly wealthy.
Well you get the picture. I’m sure you’ve never fallen for anything like that.
Well if you’re anything like me, you go through life believing the best in people. You feel that most people are honest and trying to deal in integrity and they would never intentionally mislead you.
However, today’s verse reminds us to give serious thought and consideration in our personal and business dealings. Before jumping too quickly into a deal or making a purchase do your research and check all the facts.
When evaluating your decision apply the following four steps:
First: Immediately ask yourself “Do I really need this?”
Second: Even if I think I need it, can I afford it?
Third: Does God really want me to have it?
Fourth: Take 24-48 hours to simply stop and pray about it. See if that desire for it goes away or if the Lord wants you to do it.
Be a wise and prudent person. Not a simple and foolish one.
Well if you’ll do this, you will be applying the Truth@Work.
Application Questions:
- 1What does this message say to you?
- 2Do you allow God to lead you as you check out facts on things you want to commit to?
- 3When looking at decisions, do you have a process you follow? How would it help to apply the four steps listed?
